We’re very excited to be official partners with Hallertau beer! A New Zealand owned and operated brand who brews their wonderful craft beer right here in Auckand! You’ll spot these great beers at future Father Rabbit events.
Hallertau came to life in 2005 when founders Hayley and Steve Plowman left their geology and teaching careers behind to take their love for home brews to the next level. The motivation behind the business was to create a unique and very kiwi beer drinking experience and combine it with old world brewing traditions.
The name Hallertau came from a cultural landscape deep in the heart of Bavaria that is the biggest hop-growing area in the world. Hops (a bittering and flavouring agent used in beer) have been grown in Hallertau for over 1000 years. This name fitted the brand well as Hayley and Steve draw a lot of inspiration from German brewing traditions.
Hallertau doesn't only brew great beers, they also operate three wonderful Auckland eateries that are the perfect spots to enjoy their brews. They have a Tap Haus in central Auckland on K' Road, a spacious garden eatery in Riverhead and their latest venture is the fantastic Biergarten (beer garden in German) that's nestled in the stunning Clevedon, a space they refer to as "Auckland's best kept secret".
The Riverhead Biergarten is such a great space and perfect for those summer afternoon catch ups with friends. Super spacious and with a playground, the kids can come along too!
Hallertau believes in the philosophy of supporting local and they follow through with this when sourcing ingredients for their Clevedon Biergarten food menu. The meat in their menu is from the local farm Thistle Park, they serve Clevedon Oysters, Curious Croppers Tomatoes and Clevedon Buffalo Mozzarella. Their wine list is compiled of mostly local vineyards with many of the makers among their personal and close friends. This list includes the Clevedon Hills Rosé that is made with locally grown fruit.
Made right here in New Zealand with a great support local attitude, and not to mention making exceptional craft beers, what is not to love about Hallertau? Keep an eye out at our events to get your hands on these wonderful brews! Or shop directly at Hallertau to quench your thirst!
