Father Rabbit At Home With Anna Moodabe

Our beautiful team member, Anna Moodabe, invited us to take a peak at her gorgeous beach front home in Herne Bay. Anna has been a part of our team for almost 4 years and is now the manager of both our Orakei and Bloc stores. We chatted with Anna about her style philosophy for her home, her favourite items, her passions and more. Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your home, and who you live with?

My name is Anna, and I’ve worked with Father Rabbit for going on 4 years! I started while studying graphic design at University and then moved into a full-time role when I graduated. I now manage Father Rabbit's Orakei and Bloc stores. I love food, books, music and art, all the good things!

I live with three good friends (a graphic designer, an interior showroom consultant and a doctor) in Herne Bay. We all wanted to live in a house that felt like a home, and have had so much fun decorating together! We moved into this house about three months ago after searching for a place we loved all year. The search was worth it though, I love living right next to the ocean and always feeling like there is nature on my doorstep! Living in Herne bay has also been amazing because I love dragging my friends to all the great restaurants and cafes around here.Do you have a personal home or style philosophy?

I believe the space around you has a big effect on you, I want to feel comfortable in my home. I want my space to also reflect my personality and work for me. A home is always an ongoing project, I’m always saving things on Instagram and scouring interior books for (renter friendly) inspiration. This is a flat so our furniture is almost all second-hand from TradeMe and Facebook Marketplace - the green houndstooth couch was free from Marketplace! What are some of your favourite items in your home, sentimental or otherwise?

I love collecting interesting vintage plates and kitchenware, some of my favourites are a set of duck egg Crown Lynn plates and some Carlton ware lobster plates. I also aspire to have a house full of art one day, so I’m starting now! My favourite pieces at the moment are a Micheal Smithers print and a hand painted orchard sign from Pennsylvania in the entry.

In a more practical sense, I love my Arnold circus stools, we use them as everything from a seat to a table to even a bucket! Also, the record player is a relatively new addition which has been so much fun. Do you have a favourite space or room in your home?

I love the Kitchen/Dining/Living space. I love to read a good book in the living room with a record on and a candle burning (the Hivern are my favourite and they come with amazing playlists!). This space is also great for when I have friends over for a couple of drinks and some food.

In your eyes, what makes a house a home?

To me, a home is the place where you are able to feel the most comfortable and yourself! What are your passions outside of work?

I love food, whether cooking at home or trying new restaurants! My mum is an amazing cook and has inspired my love for cooking. I’m a very aesthetic person, so art and fashion are important to me as well. The other big one is reading! I find it to be a great way to decompress. My favourite thing about summer is reading a good book on the beach. Quick fire favourites:

Book: Some of my current favourite authors are David Foster Wallace, Murakami, Olga Tokarczuk and Anne Carson for poetry. I also love anything Fitzcarraldo editions publishes
Food: BLTs, oysters and champagne, anything Italian, my Mum's beef wellington - the list goes on!
Beauty Products: Sans Cellular super dose vitamin c mask.
City: Florence - really anywhere in Italy
Podcasts: I’m a comedy podcast girlie! Off Menu with James Acaster and Ed Gamble, as well as My Brother, My Brother and Me are favourites.
