Come with us as we visit the gorgeously renovated home of talented interior stylist Catherine Wilkinson. We chatted with Catherine about her path to a successful career in styling, her own style philosophy for her home and more.Tell us a bit about yourself, your home, and who you live with?

I am a freelance interior stylist / designer who lives in a 1970s mid-century inspired home with my husband, little boy and far too many pets.Do you have a personal home or style philosophy?

We are definitely influenced by Palm Springs and mid-century design, which I like to do a more current update on. Do you have a favourite space or room in your home?

We only have one living area and with it being so open and at the centre of our home, we put a lot of thought into what goes in there. It definitely has become the favourite  space in our home and the most used.Balance is also key, adding light where it’s dark, warm tones to cool and fluid lines to linear. With styling It is also so important to give the right amount of space between your furniture pieces, let them breathe and compliment with subtle layering like cushions, throws, side tables and art etc…

What are some of your favourite items in your home, sentimental or otherwise?

I love our Arcade sofa and Hotaru pendant from Simon James, they will be with us for years to come. The hanging chair is my favourite spot in the house where I like to chill and spend time with my son. We also really love our fire place from Naked Flame, it was one of our first things we did to the house.Can you tell us about your career in interiors and styling?

I got my start at Bauer media (back when it was called ACP) straight out of University where I worked as a studio photographer. While shooting for the home titles I developed a love for all things interior design and made my way through departments to eventually work for Your Home and Garden and HOME magazines as style director. I have made some amazing friends and connections through my time at Bauer and was deeply saddened when it closed in 2020.Since then we had our son and I have been doing freelance styling for some amazing magazines like Haven, HERE, Your Home and Garden and Viva. I also work for my good friend and mentor Shelley Ferguson doing interior design for her business Shelley Ferguson Studio.Was there a defining moment when you knew you wanted to work with interiors/styling?


It was around the time when my husband and I bought our first house and I had just started at ACP.Where do you draw inspiration from and how do you avoid creative burnout?


Travel definitely fills the tank for me (when we can!) and visiting an art gallery from time to time. Being able to relax and do nothing is equally important, I find as I get older I need more time to clear the noise and have a break from social media.What are some ways you keep the balance between your home and work life?

My mum is amazing and looks after my son one day a week and by some miracle he still day naps so I can do a few hours work then or when my husband gets home. It honestly does take a village!Quick fire favourites:
